Recently at iCast 2018 a few anglers asked if we’d be interested in sponsoring them. I responded with a simple question, “How do you promote your sponsors?”

This is usually answered with, “I’ll put your logo on my jersey.”

Surprisingly, quite a few anglers begin and end with this response. Oh, some also added, ”I’ll work a tradeshow for you.”

Hard to believe that a lot of tournament anglers still think that adding a logo to their jersey or putting a decal on their truck is all it takes to being a sponsored angler. Sure, most admit that there is more to it than that. But do they know what that is or offer to bring more to the table?

Your latest tweet is trending and you’re not even quite sure what that means. People are subscribing to your youTube channel after your latest tournament recap and more people are following you — in a good way. But we know, “You’re no computer genius.”

That excuse doesn’t fly anymore. You have a social network. Yes, you. And when you share with that network, they share. Soon your followers become a following and sponsors are contacting you instead of you chasing them down. Way to go... genius (smile).
