On May 6, 2023, the Roland Martin Marine Center Series hosted a remarkable bass fishing tournament on Lake Okeechobee, setting a new record for the number of 30-pound limits weighed in during a single event. In this 177-boat team competition, 20 teams surpassed the 30-pound mark, with the 20th place team weighing in at 30.22 pounds. Notably, a 28.42-pound limit placed 31st, underscoring the exceptional fishing conditions that day.
The tournament’s top honors went to father and son duo, Preston and 11-year-old Tevyn Heisler, who secured the victory with a 36.82-pound limit. Tevyn, who contributed an 8-pound bass to their total, mentioned that his bait of choice was a black and blue Chatterbait. Their impressive performance earned them a $6,500 prize.
“We’ve been the digital partner for the Roland Martin Marine Center Series for 10 years,” said Ray Otterson, Owner and Creative Director of Pro Sites Unlimited LLC. “But we’ve never seen anything like this. Thirty-pound limits were crossing the stage one after another, and 60 teams weighed in bags over 20 pounds—enough to win most tournaments. But if you weren’t bringing over 30 pounds to the stage, you weren’t cashing a check. It was an incredible day on Lake Okeechobee.”
This event highlighted the exceptional fishing opportunities on Lake Okeechobee and the competitive spirit of the Roland Martin Marine Center Series. The tournament not only set a record for the most 30-pound limits in a single day but also showcased the skill and dedication of anglers who participated in this historic competition.
